What makes a great science paper for online journals?

Clarity, simplicity, and accuracy are the most important attributes of good scientific papers published in online scientific journals. Of course, international open access journals look for a number of other attributes such as formats and content.

Here are some tips on writing better papers targeted for online open access journals

1. Avoids jargon: Every science paper targeted for online scientific journals seeks to relay certain information. Many people believe that science is a difficult subject and so there will be some negative attitude to fight against by the time they start reading your manuscript. But never make a mistake of assuming that people do not have the hunger to learn science: they do! It is one reason you want to avoid all the jargon to keep them engaged and most importantly, helping them to learn what you want them to.

A good writer of a scientific manuscript should be a great communicator.

It is possible for anyone who wants to publish in an academic journal to learn good writing skills and put it into practice.

2. Has desired content: Writing a paper for the sake of it is the worst mistake for anyone willing to publish with online scientific journals because the manuscript will not go far before it is rejected. Make sure to start with a good sensible topic that teaches something or advances research in your field of concentration. Then do credible and adequate research.

3. Organized: Formats will help you stay organized if willing to publish with a scientific journal. However, proper organization results if you are able to envision your paper and results even before starting off. Organization of ideas is far more important when writing than structure.

4. Stay focused: Almost everyone publishing with a scientific journal has, probably a lot more to do; families and a job to care for to start with. Proper planning will help you apportion adequate time to write drafts, read it, read other scientific articles in the field, review your literature, seek guidance and write a good paper.

Planning also helps you estimate the time it takes to publish in a given online or international journal so that, perhaps, you won't drain your energy in the first few days of waiting expecting to see it online. You can talk to the reviewers or read about their publication processes online.

Starting with a topic you like and having some inspiration in writing the work will go a long way in helping you stay focused.

Most of journals have editors that will help you through the publication process and many companies actually have aggressive publication processes that will see you get published within two or a few weeks of starting, but you might, in some cases – and especially when starting out – need to revise and redo couple of things before the work is accepted. Most, for instance, have in-house publishing rules you need to read and practice before getting it right, which could take some time.
